How to feed Beer Poosa the right way
Beer Poosa is brewer's spent grain — the protein- and fibre-rich grain left over after brewing. Fed correctly it is one of the most economical protein sources for milch cattle. Here is what we tell every farmer who buys from us.
Start small, build up over a week
Begin with 2–3 kg per adult cow per day and increase gradually to 5–10 kg over about a week. A sudden change upsets rumen digestion and can drop milk for a few days.
Split it across two feeds
Give it in two portions, morning and evening, mixed with your usual concentrate. Cattle take to it faster when it is mixed rather than fed alone.
Keep the ration balanced
Beer Poosa is a protein and fibre source, not a complete feed. Continue green fodder, dry roughage and your mineral mixture. Maize feed alongside it covers the energy side.
Always keep clean water available
Wet feeds raise water intake. A milch cow needs plenty of clean drinking water for milk production to hold up.
Store cool, use fresh
Keep sacks in a cool, shaded, airy place. Use within 3–5 days in hot weather. Never feed anything that smells sour beyond normal or shows mould growth.

How much Beer Poosa should I give per cow per day?
For an adult milch cow, 5–10 kg of wet Beer Poosa per day split across two feeds works well for most farmers. Start at 2–3 kg and build up over a week. Call us and we will suggest a quantity for your herd size and milk yield.
Will it really increase milk yield?
